A behind-the-scenes peek at the islands' Number One radio station.
Radio Cayman is the "Community's Station", which provides extensive coverage of national events, such as the Queen's Birthday Parade in June, Pirates Week Festival activities in October, the Remembrance Day Service in November and other community activities including rebroadcast of the proceedings in the Legislative Assembly when the House is in session. Radio Cayman provides the islands with a 24 hour broadcast service daily. The station's first broadcast was during Easter of 1976, but the official broadcast began on 12 December 1976. Thirty five years later, it remains one of the Cayman Islands' most respected stations. In the 1980s Radio Cayman started providing the Cayman Islands with a choice of two services, Radio Cayman One and BreezeFM 89.9 and 105.3FM on Grand Cayman and 91.9 an...

Here's the first of four segments that I was able to capture when I had the opportunity to co-host Radio Cayman on Friday, December 1, 2017. Mr. Sterling Dwayne Ebanks, Host of Talk Today, started the hour out with introductions and a conversation on living with ongoing gratitude. Here in Grand Cayman, we just celebrated the end of a very active hurricane season and Cayman Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, my computer was not able to pick up his voice, which is what I could hear through the headphones. I'll have to figure out a solution to for next time. Fast-forward to these times to skip over where I was listening: 1:52 The most important reason to live with a heart of gratitude. 3:25 Can people learn to live with gratitude without experiencing hard times in life? Why I share all ...
Reception via E-skip propagation mode of 2 different FM stations simultaneously on a Sony XDR-S3HD...XHRB-FM "Sol Stereo" from San Miguel de Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico, and Radio Cayman 1, George Town, Grand Cayman Islands, in Austin, TX on May 26, 2014. The Radio Cayman 1 signal starts around 1:45 with the male announcer and lights up the RDS identification on an auxiliary Sangean HDT-1 receiver.
The first ever radio station on Grand Cayman will be back up and running in less than two weeks. The International College of the Cayman Islands (ICCI) radio programmes first hit the airwaves in 1973, operating continuously until two years ago when a lightning strike brought the school’s broadcasting programme to a halt. Since then the college has been raising funds to bring the station back on line. ICCI President, Dr. David Marshall says the radio station is an integral part of course study. “They’re two pieces to the radio programme; it’s a radio management programme, actually a broadcast management programme and technically it’s a business degree to help students understand what it takes to operate in a competitive broadcast industry,” he said. “Students, as part of that training pr...

Here's the third of four segments that I was able to capture from my co-hosting experience with Mr. Sterling Dwayne Ebanks, Host of Talk Today of Radio Cayman on Friday, December 1, 2017. Some of this is speaking directly to me today, too. Fast-forward to these times to skip over where I was listening: 1:12 Talking more about the crab-in-the-bucket mentality. Where does it begin? My thoughts on competition, jealousy, and comparison. One of my biggest pet peeves. 3:01 Discussion on broadening one's mindset, removing borders, and seeing opportunities and possibilities. 5:24 Why some give up and others do not. Thoughts on not "fitting in." Solution-based thinking and the importance of perseverance. 7:46 Discouragement in the face of hearing, "No." Two inspirational people who didn't stop...
